The Findlay City Schools safety team was asked to host a breakout presentation to state school safety leaders at the Ohio School Safety Summit, July 31, 2024. The session detailed the district’s processes for threat identification, prioritizing safety and security measures, and implementation of the StrataSite Active Threat Plan™ across city schools and others throughout Hancock county.
Findlay Fire Department Battalion Chief and former Findlay School Board President Matt Cooper led part of the session to talk about StrataSite’s active threat planning platform and its role in facilitating the collaborative development of a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan for each school in the district.
Cooper expressed, “Getting our response plans in order made us realize the gaps in communication and channels used,” determining that the more they collaborated with other stakeholders throughout the process, the more they bridged communication gaps, addressed oversights, and prepared all stakeholders to respond in coordination.
Cooper was proud to offer his perspective and was confident it resonated with his audience, saying, “Findlay City Schools was honored to share our progressive approach toward school safety with Ohio safety planners and stakeholders. Positive feedback from session attendees was immediate, with many sharing that our approach to preplanning for collaborative response with the StrataSite platform makes sense and fills a much-needed gap in complete safety preparedness.”
